“Lunch and Learn” - Writing Pedagogy in the Age of AI November 16th, 2022

AI has entered our classrooms. Students can use technology to write papers for them. Can plagiarism software detect these machine compositions? How can we confront the challenges AI-generated text poses? This "Lunch and Learn" offered ideas for designing writing assignments to incorporate scaffolding and helped track the development of students' ideas, while managing faculty workload. Presenters shared activities and assignment prompts faculty can tailor to suit their own courses.

March Session: Using Technology to Increase Interaction in the Classroom March 30th, 2022

TeachTalks SH, co-hosted by RITS and The Center for Teaching and Learning is a series of faculty-led discussions on topics relevant to faculty at NYU Shanghai. For the inaugural season this spring, we had one workshop in March and April. The theme for the spring is The Future of Teaching with Technology at NYU Shanghai. This theme was chosen as a way to honor the dedicated faculty have displayed over the last two years and codify the many successes and learning opportunities as we move forward and think about going to our new campus.

1. Writing Effective Emails in Challenging Situations March 29th, 2022

The Center for Teaching and Learning and Human Resources co-hosted Staff Business Communication Workshop Series to better help our staff enhance various communication skills in English language in the workplace.

Writing emails is an essential part of most work environments. Focusing on writing effective emails is important, but what happens when you are presented with a challenging email that you need to respond to? In this workshop, we reviewed and identified best practices and then took those best practices to practice responding to some common challenging emails.

NYU Shanghai Reads Faculty Workshop March 9th, 2022

NYU Shanghai Reads and the Center for Teaching and Learning co-hosted a faculty workshop to discuss the NYU Shanghai Reads book that will be selected for the upcoming academic year. During the workshop faculty briefly heared about the community-wide programming the NYU Shanghai Reads Committee completed during AY 21-22 and also the selection process for AY22-23. Then, faculty members were led through group discussions on how the AY22-23 book could possibly be incorporated into their courses. Finally, faculty members were led through discussions on how to develop community-wide programming (e.g., a series of faculty-led salons) working with the NYUSH Reads Program in Fall 2022 and Spring 2023.
